Last week we asked you to vote for your favourite David Croft comedy from the likes of Hi-De-Hi, Are You Being Served? and Allo Allo! Now we can reveal which one you voted for as your favourite comedy out of the bunch.
It was another very close vote this week with just three votes between our top two David Croft comedies. Popular from the word go and always ahead of Are You Being Served? but usually only just ahead was Allo Allo. The war-time comedy set in occupied France and revolving around Rene (Gordon Kaye) the ‘Hero of the French Resistance’ entertained millions of viewers on BBC One at the time and seemingly still keeps plenty of you tittering away even now. The comic catchphrases, slapstick humour, silly situations and the hair-brained schemes of Michelle ‘of the Resistance’ obviously still have plenty appeal even today. But as we said Allo Allo was only just three votes ahead of its nearest rival – Are You Being Served?
In second place with 31% of the vote, compared to 32% for Allo Allo, was the staff at Grace Brothers the Department Store in London. The rivalry between Menswear and Women’s Wear and Mrs Slocomb (Molly Sugden) references to her pussy proved hugely popular with you. In third place was the boys of the Home Guard in Dads’ Army. Captain Mainwaring (Arthur Lowe) and his troop secured 19% of your vote. Meanwhile the entertainers of the 1950s camp Maplins had 9% of the vote.
It Ain’t Half Hot Mum had 3.5% of the vote while Are You Being Served? sequel series, produced in the 1990s, had 2.9% of the vote. In America the series was renamed Are You Being Served? Again!. Finally in last place our of our selection was You Rang M’Lord which had 0.9% of the vote.
As you’ve probably seen this week’s poll is for the Best TV Detective with the likes of Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Morse and Miss Marple to chose from! Get voting now and vote for your all-time favourite TV Detective.
