Weekly Poll Results: Were the BBC right to axe My Family?

My Family{jcomments on}BBC One’s veteran comedy My Family, starring Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker, drew to a close this month after 11 seasons and over 100 episodes – but were the BBC right to axe the series?

That’s what we have been asking for since the start of the month. Much was made of the decision to cancel My Family with some within the press claiming it signalled the BBC were seeking to retreat from middle-class comedies in favour of “working class” series’ such as Bread. Others claimed the rise of Outnumbered had signed the death warrant for My Family.

Well it was a very close poll but just ahead with 55% of the vote were those of you who thought the BBC were wrong to cancel the series. That’s not surprising given the series still performed relatively well considering it was in its 11th season. Though perhaps we can take comfort in the fact that My Family won’t run and run and run like Last of the Summer Wine – every cloud has a silver lining.
