There’s trouble brewing in the Beale household, as that thorny issue of Lucy’s abortion appears to be about to rear its ugly head. For those who maybe missed it, father Ian took Lucy to a clinic where she had an abortion after getting pregnant to one of the young things from spin-off E20.

Ian’s wife, I’ve forgotten how many he’s had but it must be wife number 26 by now, Jane was told Lucy had mis-carried. This because Jane can’t have children and she was very keen to adopt Lucy’s love-child as her own.

Later another of the E20 characters – Zsa Zsa – gives Jane some “spiteful lies” in the café. Of course the lies are the truth and we just have to wait and see how long it takes for plain Jane to find out, which won’t be too long if step-son Peter Beale can help it.

Meanwhile Denise is on hand to offer Jane the support she needs when the penny finally drops. This is good news for Jane, but rather baffling for us. This is Denise who was locked in a disused flat by her crazy murdering husband Lucas not a matter of episodes earlier! Denise has made a miraculous recovery – without a hint of Victim Support. Mrs Overall will be pleased.

Elsewhere Max is preparing himself to scatter Bradley’s ashes, he sends Stacey a voicemail to her phone inviting her to go with him. Becca finds the message on Stacey’s phone and kindly deletes it. However there is a “happy ending” later when Stacey and Bradley* are reunited and will stay together for the foreseeable future.

It doesn’t however appear to be a happy ending for Minty and Heather when Shirley confronts him about their ‘secret relationship.’ Later Heather is furious to learn that Shirl has been messing in her relationship again.

EastEnders 8.00pm Tonight on BBC One and BBC HD. Repeated at 10.00pm on BBC Three.

ATV Rating: 7/10 – would have been higher but Denise roaming around freely after such a dramatic incident just doesn’t work for me I’m afraid.
