TV Coverage: Pope arrives in the UK

Pope Benedict has arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland for the start of his four day visit to the UK, as rolling news coverage begins.

Sky News have been presenting live from

Edinburgh with Colin Brazier. BBC One has special live coverage presented by Huw Edwards, along with the BBC News channel also taking coverage. ITV 1 has decided not to cover events live as they happen, but there will be heavy coverage in their news programmes.

Live pictures were showing the plane carrying the Pope landing at Edinburgh airport, which seemed to catch the BBC off guard as they were showing a report on the Pope’s life, having to cut it mid way through to show the plane landing. Former Loose Women anchor Kaye Adams is reporting live from the streets of Edinburgh getting the reaction of the crowd.

Coverage on BBC One goes through until 1pm, with BBC Two taking up live coverage for the Papal Mass in Glasgow at 5pm. Sky News and the BBC News Channel will have live coverage throughout the day.

The Pope is now in the ‘Popemobile’ going through Edinburgh as thousands turn out to see the Pope. Sky News have been talking about small group of protesters who are in a designated area. The cost of the Pope’s visit still being voiced on all news programmes which will rile a lot of people.

Coverage of the Pope as you would expect has been full on so far. Sky News have Anna Botting presenting Afternoon Live, i wonder where Kay Burley is? She HAS to pop up somewhere! BBC One ended special coverage at 1pm for the BBC News at One, a time for viewers without freeview or digital to get some other news of the day.

Earlier the Pope met with the Queen although it is unclear if they cut the feed to late as we heard the Queen talking to the Pope about his car.

The Morning Wire here on ATV Today will have a round up of media coverage tomorrow morning
