Captain Scarlet (ITV DVD)

ATV Archive: Captain Scarlet

A Five Disc DVD box set of the Gerry Anderson ATV series released by ITV DVD.

This release is the complete original 1960s series of Captain Scarlet. All the full 32 episodes across released together, totalling forteen hours and twenty minutes of puppet action from legendary producer Gerry Anderson in his ‘Supermarionation‘ genre.

Storyline

Spectrum’s indestructible Captain Scarlet battles to overcome the Mysterons and their wicked ways in the future date of 2065. Captain Scarlet has two powers: he can sense the presence of other Mysteron duplicates nearby, and if he should be injured or even killed, retro-metabolism will re-create him as good as before.

Unlike Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s earlier shows Thunderbirds and Stingray, where each episode was a different rescue attempt, Captain Scarlet had a continuous storyline running throughout the episodes concerning Spectrum’s attempt to find the weaknesses of and destroy the Mysterons. This science fiction series for children was a huge hit when originally aired on ITV back in the 1960s. The series was repeated in recent times on the BBC and a brand new version created for CITV took Scarlet to an entirely new generation in the 2000’s.
