For the first time Channel 4 is to broadcast what is described as ‘the world’s greatest five day horseracing extravaganza’.
The World’s most famous racing festival, Royal Ascot leaves BBC Sport for its new home at Channel 4 Racing, with 30 races televised live over five days.
As well as attracting a cast of top class international horses bidding to earn their slice of Turf history against the cream of British equine talent, the event is also renowned as the pinnacle of the social calendar. With Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal Family attending on each day to enjoy the first class sporting action, the ‘Style Stakes’ will also be high on the agenda with ladies wearing extravagant hats and men donning morning dress within the world-famous Royal Enclosure.
With a record £5 million in prize money up for grabs and 30 hotly contested races, the meeting also features seven prestigious QIPCO British Champions Series races, including the opening race of the week, the Queen Anne Stakes when the Dubai World Cup winner, Animal Kingdom from the US will be taking on the best of Europe’s milers. The Queen will also be looking to add to her tally of Royal Ascot winners when her horse, Estimate, bids to win the Ascot Gold Cup on Thursday 20th June.
