Women’s Cricket World Cup to air on BBC Radio

BBC Sport logoBBC Radio 5 live sports extra is to broadcast coverage of all England’s matches from the Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.

Jonathan Wall, Acting Controller Radio 5 live and sports extra, says: “We’re proud to bring by far the most comprehensive coverage on the BBC of the Women’s Cricket World Cup. The BBC is committed to broadcasting more women’s sport and we’re looking forward some great live action from the impressive England Women’s team. Across radio, online and TV news we’ll have the full story of this major sporting event as it unfolds. This sets the scene for a busy and exciting year of cricket in 2013 as we look forward to The Ashes, with the unrivalled TMS commentary at its core.”

Alison Mitchell leads the commentary with TMS regulars Charles Dagnall and Prakash Wakankar. Former England player and World Cup winner Ebony Rainford-Brent joins the team as expert summariser, along with former England batsman Mark Butcher.

A dedicated reporter will be in India for the entire event bringing all the news, interviews and features back home throughout the tournament for the BBC Sport website, plus the tournament will be reported across TV sports news. All commentary is available to listen again for seven days on the BBC iPlayer.

Live commentary of England’s Group Stage matches begins on the 1st February, followed by matches on 3rd February and 5th February. Coverage will then follow the team as they progress through the stages and there will be live commentary of the Final on the 17th February.
