Chile miners rescue success so far

The rescue operation to bring the trapped miners back to the surface has so far been a success, with 9 of the 33 now safe.

 

 

 

The first miner to be freed, Florencio Avalos, came to the surface in the specially made capsule at 04:10 BST. He was met by officials, safety teams and his family. It is expected that every hour, a miner will be brought up, and so far they are on track.

 

News channels around the world have had non stop coverage since late yesterday. Sky News began their ‘non stop live coverage’ from 22:00 along with BBC News Channel, also broadcasting on BBC World News. CNN, Al Jazeera among other have also had live coverage. Ratings Sky News and the BBC News Channel saw a combined total of 350,000 (average) viewers turning in over a five hour period from 21:00

 

It is expected to be completed by tomorrow, if everything goes to plan.

The mission to rescue the trapped 33 miners is now over. All the miners were brought to the surface successfully.
