For the past week we’ve been asking you to vote for the programme you’d most like to see move to Channel Five. After a week of close voting we can now reveal the results. At the start of the week it was the Liverpool soap Brookside that shot ahead and looked as though it would win the poll. The soap, which aired on Channel Four between 1982 and 2003, was way up with over 2000 votes but it couldn’t hold its position for long. Very quickly the American daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful came fighting back and overtook Brookside by quite a margin. The soap had aired on Diva TV until last week when the digital broadcaster stopped airing episodes and it seems a though fans are now keen for Channel Five to once again air the soap. With 36.1% of the vote The Bold and the Beautiful is the programme our readers would most like to see move to Channel Five.
In second place is The Bill which, midway during the poll, suddenly saw a surge of interest from viewers. ITV shamefully axed the police drama earlier this year and its final episode aired just a few weeks ago and it’s fans want it back and on Channel Five. The Bill polled 35.7% of the vote – not that far behind B&B at all! Brookside, which was in the lead at one point, came third when voting closed with 25.4% of the vote but still way ahead votes and percentage wise of the next contender. There’s been much speculation in the press that new owner of Five, Richard Desmond, wants to bring Big Brother to the broadcaster – well it seems only 1.8% of you want to see that.
Another programme said to be on Desmond’s wish list is the former BBC chart music programme Top of the Pops but it only polled 0.6% of your vote. The ITV 1960s based drama Heartbeat did even worse with only 0.3% while the ‘other option’ had 0.1%.
In all over 10,000 votes were cast in the poll and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted. The new poll for this week – Best American Soap -is now open. You can read more about it here >>
