Best Current UK Gay Storyline – The Results

Since last Friday we have been asking you to vote for the best current gay storyline in the UK soaps. There were three couples vying for your votes; Christian and Syed from EastEnders, Sophie and Sian from Coronation Street and Aaron and Jackson from Emmerdale. Well folks you certainly voted because this clocked up a staggering 1.5 million votes!

Since last Friday we have been asking you to vote for the best current gay storyline in the UK soaps. There were three couples vying for your votes; Christian and Syed from EastEnders, Sophie and Sian from Coronation Street and Aaron and Jackson from Emmerdale. Well folks you certainly voted because this clocked up a staggering 1.5 million votes! To say we were taken by surprise over the success of the poll or how the votes kept rising by the thousands over the past week is an understatement!

When we checked the results Friday evening and saw nearly 49,000 people had voted we were on the floor in shock! So imagine our surprise as, across the week, that number of votes kept rising until it topped 1 million and then edged closure to 1.5 million votes. By the time voting ended this morning we had nearly 1.5 million votes which is truly impressive and a testament to how loyal soap fans are to their favourite couples. But who won?

Well sadly for Aaron and Jackson it was always a battle between Syed and Christian in EastEnders and Sophie and Sian in Coronation Street. The gay couple from EastEnders took an early lead last Friday as it shot ahead pulling in thousands of votes within just hours. However, Sophie and Sian of Coronation Street quickly caught up and surpassed there London rivals and stayed ahead over the weekend. It wasn’t until Tuesday that Christian and Syed began to close the gap and eventually overtake the lesbian couple by some margin – so yes with 57.7% and 856,428 votes your favourite current gay couple/storyline is Christian and Syed from EastEnders.

In second place with 41.3% of the vote and 612,593 votes are Sophie and Sian of Coronation Street. Clearly demonstrating that while the media at large hasn’t paid them all that much attention they have built up a fiercely loyal following. In third place with 1.1% and 15,839 votes was Aaron and Jackson of Emmerdale. In any other of our polls we’ve done so far that figure would be a winner but sadly in this one the other two couples dwarfed them from very early on.
