Last week we asked you to vote for your favourite character from The Bill and as the Facebook group to save the ITV police drama nears 30,000 members we can reveal which character from the show’s 27 year history you preferred the most. Well you voted and it was a very close run thing. To begin with it was DCI Frank Burnside and Inspector Dale “Smithy” Smith who were in the lead – it looked as though the battle would be between the two. However, despite an early need they quickly fell back and instead it became a battle between Inspector Gina Gold and Sergeant June Ackland.

In the end there were only a handful of votes between the two but it was June Ackland with 31% of the vote who won. Yes actress Trudie Goodwin’s portrayal of “Aunty” June for over 25 years won your hearts and she is your favourite character from the series. Very close behind in second place with 30% of the votes was Gina Gold. In third place was early favourite Frank Burnside with 10% of the vote Dale “Smithy” won 7.4% of the vote. Just behind him is long-term survivor Jack Meadows, currently Superintendent of Sun Hill, with 5.4% of the vote.

The ever popular Bob Cryer won 4% of the vote while gay copper Luke Aston had 3.5% of the vote. Very unlucky in love Polly Paige had 2.5% of the vote while our “Other” option had 2.5% as well. Below that was bent copper Don Beach with 1.5% while poor deranged Cathy Bradford came last with 0.7% of the vote! “Other” characters you voted for included Micky Webb, Gabriel Kent and Craig Gilmore.

Don’t forget that the Facebook campaign to Save The Bill is still going and so far nearly 30,000 people have joined the group. Every person who joins helps show ITV, and other broadcasters, that The Bill still has a loyal fan base and a place on our screens. So to join Save The Bill just click here >>
