Sky Sports will be live at the home of last season’s treble winners Leeds Rhinos to kick off a huge year of rugby league that includes action from four different competitions.
“A nail-biting Grand Final has only just finished but we are already preparing for another huge season of rugby league here at Sky Sports. Fans will be treated to the best of the action with over 100 live matches featuring 27 teams from four different competitions. I can’t wait and am excited about taking viewers on another hard-hitting, high-octane journey of this fantastic sport.” -Neville Smith, executive producer of rugby league
Leeds begin their defence of the League Leader’s Shield at home to Warrington Wolves on the opening night, Thursday 4th February. Viewers will also get an early glimpse of their 2015 Grand Final opponents Wigan Warriors, who welcome back 2012 Man of Steel and club legend Sam Tomkins after a season with the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL.
As part of the early season schedule on Sky Sports, viewers will be able to watch all three games from the World Club Series from 19th-21st February. Tomkins will be up against some familiar faces as current NRL champions North Queensland Cowboys, beaten finalists the Brisbane Broncos and the highly rated Sydney Roosters visit the UK to take on the three top sides in Super League.
In the Super League, all four of last season’s semi-finalists will be shown by the end of round two and every team will be featured by the end of round 10 reflecting Sky Sports’ commitment to bringing viewers the most comprehensive coverage of rugby league. Magic Weekend and the Kingstone Press Championship’s Summer Bash also return in May meaning every Super League and Championship club will be shown live over two consecutive weekends.
Sky Sports will show games from the First Utility Super League, World Club Series, Kingstone Press Championship and Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. The regular season schedule of Thursday and Friday night Super League games will be complemented by Catalans Dragons home matches on Saturdays with season highlights including Magic Weekend, The Summer Bash, end of season Play-Offs and The World Club Series.
Sky Sports News HQ will bring news, interviews and features from around the game on channel 401 and across its digital portfolio that includes Sky Sports apps and skysports.com.
