Gabby Logan talks ‘controversy’ over hosting Match of the Day

Gabby Logan has spoken about sexist reactions to her fronting BBC One’s football round-up series Match of the Day.

Speaking on ITV’s Daybreak she discussed the reaction by some football fans to her presenting Match of the Day at the weekend.

Speaking to Kate Garraway and John Stapleton about the Twitter reaction to presenting the long running sports programme, Gabby seemed confused at sexist reactions.

I’ve done Match of the Day so many times… Twitter is always an interesting read anyway at midnight when people have had a few and it was about me being a woman, there was nothing kind of said about anything factually incorrect just literally ‘OMG a woman hosting Match of the Day’ which seems a bit of a throwback, a bit archaic…

I’ve been doing football on telly for 15, 16 years so I kind of put it to bed as an anomaly but it does seem a bit odd when I’ve done it so many times.

The first female to front a sports programme in the UK was Noele Gordon on ITV back in 1955. Daybreak airs weekdays on ITV, UTV and STV.
