Voice of football results retires

Tim Gudgin, the man who voices BBC Final Score’s Results has hung up his Microphone at the age of 81.

After a career of 60 years in broadcasting, Gudgin cites age, the commute to BBC Sport’s new home in Salford and an upcoming family wedding in Australia for his decision to bow out. Today was the last day Television Centre in London was home for Final Score. The tea-time results programme will follow the already moved Football Focus and Match of the Day to Salford.

Gudgin joined the BBC in 1965 and has had many roles since then.  He joined BBC Sport in 1976 for the Grandstand programme where he read out results from a variety of sports including Horse racing and Rugby.  It wasn’t until later on in 1994 till Gudgin became the  only the second ‘voice of the results’ taking over from Len Martin who died.

Gudgin who retires a week before his 82nd birthday, will be replaced from next week by Mike West, who has presented sports bulletins on BBC Radio Lancashire.
