Television sports personality Georgie Thompson has been banned from driving after an incident outside her home last month. She first appeared on Sky Sports in June 2001 and has hosted the A1GP Series, US Open tennis and the Speedway World Cup. Thompson is also a regular anchor on the Sky Sports News channel hosting such programmes as Evening Report.
The presenter, who pleaded guilty to the charge of drink-driving, has been banned from taking vehicles on the roads for 19 months.
The 33-year-old popular presenter had a minor accident outside her home in West London last month while trying to park her Porsche. She was later found to be more than twice over the legal alcohol limit. She was described to have had “glazed eyes” and “slurred speech” when arrested for the offence.
Georgie Thompson Georgie has a 2:1 in Broadcast Journalism from Leeds University and her television job was with GMTV behind the scenes before becoming a researcher on ITV’s Entertainment Today.
In 2000 she was picked to report from the Cannes Film Festival which was seen by Sky Sports producers who asked her to screen test for the network.
Thompson is also a resident pannelist on Sky One comedy quiz show A League of Their Own, alongside former England cricket captain Freddie Flintoff, Jamie Redknapp and comedian John Bishop. The show is, of course, hosted by James Corden.
Sky’s press centre has not released any comment on the situation.
