With Dallas heading back to screens next year – with several original cast members onboard – it was only natural that attention would turn towards its old rival Dynasty. Low and behold in recent weeks there have been press stories about a possible return for the Oil saga. So this week we’re asking; Would you like to see a revival of Dynasty?
Dynasty was a mixture of cat-fights, shoulder pads, scheming, plot, long lost relatives, caviar and pouting – it was a huge hit that captured the 1980s audience and has left a lasting legacy. Many a soap bitch these days is modelled on Joan Collins’ Alexis – a powerful but vengeful woman determined to get her own way at whatever cost. Dynasty had its fair share of ‘bitches’ of the years with Kate O’Mara, Heather Locklear and Stephanie Beacham joining the ranks but Collins always ruled supreme – the queen of Dynasty‘ bitches.
Dynasty was pure melodrama; every five minutes it seemed another drama was facing the Carrington/Colby families and there was a long-line of long-lost relatives to pop out as the plot demanded – Blake (John Forsythe) managed to acquire an extra son (Adam – Gordon Thomson) and daughter (Amanda – Catherine Oxenberg) as well as a sister (Dominique – Diahann Carroll) and brother (Ben – Christopher Cazenove). Alexis gained a sister (Kate O’Mara) and a cousin (Stephanie Beacham) while Jeff Colby (John James) was given an entire extended family, never even hinted at before, who were the main characters of spin-off series The Colbys (Stephanie Beacham was a regular before switching to Dynasty).
Dynasty is still hugely popular around the world and regularly repeated but with the revival of Dallas on TNT fans are now hoping their beloved series will follow suit – but should it? Would you like to see a revival of Dynasty?
