Following last week’s shock cancellation of ABC daytime soaps All My Children and One Life to Live we’re asking if the broadcaster was right to axe both in one go.
Fans of soap in America are used to broadcasters cancelling their favourite shows but two in one go must be unprecedented. In recent years CBS culled Guiding Light and As The World Turns but that a year apart – now both at the same time. Perhaps its the double cancellation which makes the demise of All My Children and One Life to Live so shocking.
On one level it was perhaps expected that one of them would go as they’ve both struggled in the ratings recently and been rumoured to be cancelled for some time. So fans were probably prepared for ABC to cancel one of them – even though it had denied in the past it was planning too – but when the news came both were going many fans (and cast members on both soaps) were shocked.
There’s been a lot of reaction to the axings and fans have already set up campaigns to try and save both soaps – good luck to them – but were ABC right to axe All My Children and One Life to Live? That is what we are asking you this week.
