We asked you to vote for which show, axed in 2010, you want back and we can now reveal the results!
It was another tight poll this week with a constantly changing top position but in the last days the fight was narrowed to between just two shows – both of which pulled vastly ahead of the nearest rivals making it difficult for the others to catch up. So which show do you, our readers, want back? Well in first place with 35.3% of the vote was Ghost Whisperer, the CBS supernatural series starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. The drama was unexpected cancelled by CBS in 2010 in favour of similarly themed series Medium, which stars Patricia Arquette. There was some hope of Ghost Whisperer moving to ABC but all that fan amounted to nothing. Ironically enough Medium has since been cancelled by CBS because of low ratings.
In second place with 31.1% of the vote – revealing just how close the poll was – is The Bill. ITV shamefully treated police drama The Bill in its last year. It ordered an unnecessary revamp, cut the number of episodes per year in half, axed the iconic theme tune and then when it didn’t work out cancelled the series and shunted it to Tuesday nights. There was a campaign to save The Bill but sadly it didn’t work. It’s loss is a huge blow to the drama industry in the UK and a tar on ITV’s name. In third place is the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica. At one stage Caprica was actually in first place but fell behind and never recovered lost ground. Still with 15.2% of the vote Caprica still performed well in our poll and shows there is still an audience for the Syfy show. In fourth place is another cult series – Heroes. The NBC series was axed after its fourth series because of low ratings – as pretty much everyone predicted. In our poll 7.3% of you wanted it back. In fifth place is the comedy series Scrubs which was axed by ABC because of low ratings – some argued it should have ended last year but ABC renewed it. Well 3% of you want it back.
Ah Flashforward – there was much hope for it, so much anticipation. It was dubbed the new Lost and to begin with it really looked as though the series would be a hit. Then something went wrong and ratings began to fell. What that something is has been hotly debated by fans and critics alike. In our poll 2% of you voted for Flashforward. Next was Heartbeat which was forever stuck in the 1960s. The Yorkshire drama ran for 17 years on ITV1 – who knew the 60s lasted that long – and 1.6% of you wanted to see it return. Spy/action/thriller series 24 is next with 1.2% but there is some hope for fans of the Fox series as a movie is in the works. ABC’s comedy Ugly Betty, cancelled after four seasons, had 0.8% of the vote. Our ‘other’ option had 0.8% of the vote as well – we’ll come back to that in a minute. CBS daytime soap As The World Turns had 0.6% of the vote and in last place with just 0.3% of the vote was ITV’s ill-fated comedy/drama Married Single Other – hailed as the new Cold Feet it launched well but ended badly (ratings wise).
So what were some of those ‘other’ votes for? Well Legend of the Seeker, Reaper (not actually axed in 2010 but we’ll count it all the same), The Royal (Heartbeat’s spin-off), Medium and quite a few for Heroes. However, even adding the extra votes for Heroes doesn’t change its position in the poll.
We’d like to thank everyone who voted – there’s a brand new poll now open and its for your favourite Carry On star.
