After the successful purse bid to host Kid Galahad’s contest for the British super bantamweight title against the highly rated James ‘Jazza’ Dickens, Mick Hennessy has announced today that this superb and much sought after fight, will top the bill with a night of championship boxing at the Magna Centre in September.
This is a contest between two very talented and undefeated super bantamweights, as Galahad looks to extend his perfect record to 15 wins and add to his WBC International super bantamweight title.
It’s a dream come true fighting for one of the best belts out there, the British title, I can’t wait, I’m feeling good, feeling strong, feeling sharp – I’m still in good condition from my last fight and I’m ready for September. – Galahad
In his last contest Galahad outclassed and outgunned the resilient Isaac Nettey at Glow, Bluewater, to give the African fighter his first stoppage defeat in a now 31-fight career.
Already, comparisons are being made between Galahad, 23, and former Ingle Gym stable mate and former world champion Prince Naseem Hamed. After winning the WBC International title in less contests than it took Hamed and less than even multiple-weight megastar Manny Pacquiao, Galahad is certainly living up to expectations. But the 22-year-old Liverpool man, Dickens, is confident in his abilities and will certainly not be an easy night for Kid.
Boasting a record of 16 wins with five knockouts, Dickens picked up the English title in just his 14th contest, in a fight that was originally set to see him face Galahad. Now, having missed each other before, both men will be looking to show they are the better fighter and put the British title to their name.
Jazza Dickens is a strong kid, he comes forward, he’s a bit awkward you can say, but he’s a good fighter and it’s going to be a hard fight,” “Whatever happens on the day will happen on the day, I’ll just go in there and I’ll find the game plan to win – I will find a way to win no matter what. Make sure you tune in to see me take Jazza Dickens to school and show why I’m the best in Britain. – Galahad
Supporting Galahad at Magna will be middleweight sensation Chris Eubank Jr in his 11th professional contest and current World Youth super-heavyweight champion Hughie Fury in his ninth outing as a pro.
Championship Boxing at the Magna Centre on September 14th live on Channel 5 from 8.00pm.
