Homicide: Life on the Street set the bar for some of the greatest series of all-time, many of which you can watch on Sky and NOW alongside this legendary drama which has been lovingly restored.”
A three-time Peabody Award winner, four-time Emmy® Award winner, and one of the most acclaimed police dramas in television history, Homicide: Life on the Street revolutionised the TV genre when it launched in 1993 – running for 122 episodes.
It is seen by many as the catalyst for other classic series such as The Sopranos and ultimately The Wire. The series garnered huge praise from the media, with IGN referring to it as “one of the most gripping TV shows of the last 20 years” while Vulture said it was “arguably the best cop show of all time”.
Inspired by real murder cases in 1990s Baltimore,Homicide: Life on the Street delivers an unvarnished look at the rigorous detective work of a homicide division in Baltimore.
A unit of homicide detectives battle an overload of cases in the brutal struggle to keep law and order on the tough streets of Baltimore, all the while wrestling with the toll their difficult work takes on their lives and relationships.
Drug deals gone wrong, gang-land executions, hostage situations, child murders: each episode presents a bold, no-holds-barred portrayal of life in the Baltimore Homicide squad, inspired by real cases and the experiences of real detectives. Built on an ensemble cast, including major guest stars and a career-defining performance by Andre Baugher as Detective Frank Pembleton, Homicide: Life on the Street is not only an emotionally raw portrayal of life on the front line, but a compelling character-driven drama with emotional depth.
Created by Paul Attanasio and based on the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon, creator of The Wire, the highly influential classic features an outstanding ensemble cast with award-winning talent including the late Andre Braughner, Richard Belzer and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo.
It also includes a selection of iconic guest stars including Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Paul Giamatti, Edie Falco, Jake Gyllenhaal, Luis Guzmán, Marcia Gay Harden, Steve Buscemi and Vincent D’Onofrio.
The format was revamped and launched stateside in August 2024.
