Gerald Cooper’s racehorse raises £28,500 for Prostate Cancer UK

A Mullet, a telly famed farmhand and 3,000 shares all make for success…

A racehorse syndicate launched by Old Gold Racing and led by Gerald Cooper, the beloved farmhand from the hit television documentary Clarkson’s Farm, has been a tremendous success with all 3,000 shares – £60 each – selling out in just 50 days, resulting in a £28,500 donation to Prostate Cancer UK.

The Mullet, named after Gerald’s infamous hairstyle, will be trained by Charlie Longsdon, whose family have a longstanding connection with Cooper. His new owners will also have the option to donate any prize money earnings to Prostate Cancer UK, who have been a huge support to Gerald and his family throughout his battle against the disease.

Speaking at the launch of the syndicate, Gerald said: “It was a shock – but everyone has really supported me. I received tremendous support from family, friends and Prostate Cancer UK – which was also a lifeline. I made it through and I’m now cancer-free. I wanted to do something joyful for a good cause.”

Now sold out, the initiative has raised £28,500 for Prostate Cancer UK, with Gerald commenting: “I’m over the moon! I still get people asking me to buy shares! Now I’ll have to tell them no! Maybe we’ll have to get a second horse!”

Trainer of The Mullet, Charlie Longsdon, reacted with: “It’s fantastic news! It’s a pleasure to be involved in this great initiative set up by Old Gold Racing and Gerald, and I’m delighted to see the money we’ve been able to raise for Prostate Cancer UK so far. The Mullet has had a little break and is starting his pre-training next week. We should have him ready to hit the track in the spring, so we’re very excited about that.”

While all 3,000 shares are now sold out, you can still join the waiting list for the next time any become available: https://oldgoldracing.com/horses/the-mullet

“We are delighted to announce that all shares in The Mullet are now sold out! Gerald’s charity syndicate has raised a whopping £28,500 for Prostate Cancer UK and we’d like to say a huge thank you and wish good luck to everyone who has purchased a share in The Mullet and donated to a brilliant cause. We can’t wait to see you at a course in the not too distant future.” – Old Gold Racing CEO, Ed Seyfried
