UK regions ‘Most committed’ to weight loss in 2025

The study, carried out by the weight-loss programme Second Nature, examined obesity rates across the UK and analysed over 200 keywords to pinpoint the areas with the highest interest in weight loss ahead of the new year. By determining a ranking per 100,000 residents, the research pinpointed cities and towns most committed to shedding pounds during the festive season.

Rochdale, with a score of 83.13, has 73.33% of its population classified as overweight and 34.86% as obese. Last month, there were over 26,400 searches for weight-loss methods, 3,607 searches per 100,000, as locals aim to kickstart 2025 in better shape.

 Blackpool ranks second with a score of 80.67, with 14,672 of its total residents searching for weight-loss methods last month. The town has 33.21% of its population classified as obese, and 72.13% of adults are overweight. 

Chesterfield follows with a score of 80.66, where 38.07% of adults are classified as obese and 73.67% are overweight. Last month, over 12,000 searches for weight-loss methods were recorded, equating to 2,274 searches per 100,000, as residents look to improve their health. Scoring 79.36, Liverpool ranks next in overweight cities looking to drop weight before the new year. With 29.82% of adults classified as obese and 67.22% overweight, the city saw over 72,900 searches last month. 

Wolverhampton places fifth with a score of 78.55, with a total of 19,393 searches amongst a population of 526,000. 32.98% of adults are obese, with 70.61% being overweight. Rounding out the remaining ten UK locations are Wakefield with a score of 75.30, followed by Newcastle upon Tyne at 74.26, Middlesbrough at 73.75, Plymouth at 73.18, and Stoke-on-Trent at 72.69.
