EastEnders is set to reveal the identity of Cindy Beale’s Christmas Day attacker during its 40th anniversary celebrations in February.
After her affair with Junior Knight was dramatically revealed in The Vic by her daughter-in-law-turned-rival, Lauren, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) became a target, left for dead in the Square Gardens after being struck on the head with a shovel.
The identity of the assailant is currently unknown, but at the time of the incident, Cindy had made quite a few enemies.
Having simultaneously torn the Beale and Knight families apart with her affair admission that wrecked her relationship with long-suffering fiancé Ian, she attempted to turn her back on Walford, her children, and her actions for good.
Cindy’s family were shocked and appalled to discover the lengths she had gone to in order to hide her actions. She not only caused Kojo’s fall and pressured him into silence but also provided Lauren with painkillers in an effort to keep her quiet, which led to a fire that put Lauren and her son Louie in danger.
Whilst her condition currently hangs in the balance, many potential culprits are set to find themselves in the frame for the crime, but fans will have to wait until February to discover who the attacker really is.
On the storyline, Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said:
“Our 40th anniversary storylines have been in the works for some time, but even at the very start of planning, we knew that we wanted to reveal the identity of Cindy’s attacker as part of this. Many characters currently find themselves in the line of question, but over the coming weeks, the audience can look out for clues themselves to who may be the culprit. Cindy’s attacker reveal is just one of many stories we have planned for the anniversary as it is set to be a week of explosive drama for the audience to remember.”
