SoapWeekly: Jonathon and Mikey’s Christmas Day takes a violent turn in River City

Soap highlights for the coming week from River City…

This week in Shieldinch… Eddie stirs up serious accusations to Lenny in a bid to protect Tyler; Drew misreads Caitlin’s heart-felt confession to Gillian; and Mulvaney desperately tries to make amends with Bob.

With the pressure piling on Tyler, Eddie does his part to point the finger at someone else – Harry’s right hand man, Des. After spotting Harry’s right hand man watching Amber Cabs afar, Eddie accuses Des of enjoying the mayhem and violence unfolding between the Murdochs and Foulkes families. Spotting an opportunity, Eddie decides to play dirty.

Eddie plants the seed of doubt about Des to Lenny and Alex but they remain convinced Tyler’s the grass. However, his suggestion that Des is privy to insider intel and appears to be untouchable to the police, makes Lenny and Alex reluctantly consider Eddie’s theory. Elsewhere, Drew questions Sam about his relationship with Caitlin. Although Sam insists he’s happy to go at Caitlin’s pace, Drew suspects he wants more.

Later, Drew overhears Caitlin telling Gillian she’s ready to make a commitment and mistakenly assumes it’s about Sam. Elated, he conjures up a plan with a delighted Sam – little realising Caitlin’s heart belongs to Seb.

Mulvaney apologises to Bob for burning the memorial bench but is disheartened by his cold response. However, there’s more to Bob’s unforgiving reaction than meets the eye.

Later in the week festive cheer is thin on the ground at Mikey and Jonathon’s when Gillian arrives with an extra guest – Sonny. She secretly confides in Mikey about Sonny’s drinking and promises she’ll track his alcohol intake.

However, out of sight, a manipulative Jonathon listens in and spots an opportunity to play foul – spiking Sonny’s drink. As Sonny’s behaviour spirals, tensions rise with Gillian and Jonathon at loggerheads. Later that night, Jonathon and Mikey’s Christmas Day takes a violent turn when anger boils over with shocking consequences.

Elsewhere, at the Tall Ship, with everyone distracted by festivities, Caitlin and Seb steal a moment to confess they’ve missed each other. Their moment is interrupted when Santa Sam turns up with a surprise present for Caitlin – an engagement ring.

Christmas at the O’Hara’s is fraught when Bob turns up unannounced. Kelly-Marie tells Scarlett it’s the perfect time for forgiveness but she’s reluctant to start afresh. It’s only when Bob and Mulvaney join forces that Scarlett embraces the festivities and peace is restored by their thoughtful gesture.
