What long-standing ‘mystery’ will be revealed in Doctor Who?

Doctor Who Odds: Longest-Standing Mystery To Be Answered In Christmas Special…

Doctor Who fans have a festive special to look forward to over the Christmas period, but a recent comment by screenwriter Steven Moffat has led to some increased speculation.

“It feels very nice to be back with a Christmas special. It’s got such a joyous, lovely, warm Christmassy feel. There is so much heart in this story which touches on loss, love and humour, which is exactly what you want for a Christmas Day adventure with the Doctor. I can’t wait for the audience to see it, it’s very joyous.” Ncuti Gatwa

The festive episode, entitled ‘Joy to the World‘, will introduce Nicola Coughlan’s character Joy, who is the latest companion of Ncuti Gatwa’s titular Time Lord character following Ruby Sunday’s (Millie Gibson) departure.

Joy to the World writer Moffat told Radio Times magazine: “This year, the Doctor will tell you the answer to that question you’ve been asking since you were a small child. The solution to the longest-standing mystery in, not merely the Doctor Who universe, but the universe as a whole. Watch on Christmas Day!”

Whovians are to discover the answer to one of life’s ‘longest-standing’ mysteries. But what could it be?

“We find the Doctor at the start of this episode alone. He’s lost his companion and he’s on the hunt for some milk! He’s landed in a very exciting hotel, and then the adventure ensues. He’s obviously still dealing with losing Ruby, who is back at home with her family, and he’s trying to fill that void with an adventure, and it is a big one!” –  Ncuti Gatwa

Gambling.com’s Entertainment Expert, James Leyfield has been monitoring the rumours about Doctor Who and has created a market on the mystery that could be answered in the Christmas Special.

Nativity Who?
It’s 10/11 for the Star Seed to be the star of Bethlehem, but will that be the big mystery answered.
Doctor Who Indeed
Some believe viewers will finally find out the Doctor’s real name in the Christmas special. It’s 4/1 that happens, but it does seem unlikely, because it would irk many a Whovian due to the Time Lord’s moniker being a well-guarded secret.
Hotel Room Door Mystery
Should it end up being the hotel door query, which is 2/1, then it might be “revealed” that a locked room in a hotel, or a connecting door in a hotel, is in fact where a time travel device is stored.
