Lynda Berry reported on Christmas shopping in the Midlands with a visit to Rackhams Department Store in Birmingham to see how sales were going given the then economic recession. A spokesman for the store said business had been better than they expected, and they will take three million pounds up to Christmas.
Items in the festive offering included electronic games, teddy bears and model railways for children. For adults television sets and aftershave were on sale.
