OTD, November 25th 1964…
Jaguar has been in the news lately with its new-look logo and youth-aiming rebrand. However back in 1964 on this day it was all about getting back onto the factory floor in the Midlands for the company as ATV Midland News reported.
Production at the Jaguar car factory in Coventry had resumed following a pause due to a strike at the component supplier Salisbury Transmissions Ltd in Birmingham. The production lines at the Jaguar car factory in Coventry were operational once more, including the assembly of E-type and S-type cars.
Jaguar was established in 1922 by motorcycle aficionados William Lyons and William Walmsley and the The Swallow Sidecar Company. In need of bigger premises, the Coventry factory opened in 1928 with the company relocating from Blackpool.
The Jaguar name was first used in 1935 on a sports car, the company rebranded a decade later. The Coventry factory closed in 2005.
