Paddington Bear gets Madame Tussauds figure

PaddingtonTM, the beloved bear, has this week received the Madame Tussauds London treatment…

The adventurous bear’s first-ever figure was revealed to fans and cast earlier this week on the carpet at the Paddington in Peru world premiere in London’s Leicester Square.

Steve Blackburn, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London:

“Paddington is a true national treasure, a staple of British culture and a beloved character that multiple generations around the globe have grown up with. As everyone’s favourite bear hits film screens for yet another adventure, it’s the perfect time for Paddington to join our star-studded attraction.”

In the lead-up to the latest Paddington film (STUDIOCANAL) Paddington in Peru, due to hit UK cinema screens tomorrow (8th November) Madame Tussauds London unveiled the figure for the first time to the public, standing alongside cast members Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Hugh Bonneville.

Madame Tussauds London’s first ever Paddington figure dons his iconic red hat and blue coat – the instantly recognisable statement outfit across literature and film that families across the globe know and love. Madame Tussauds London’s artists worked with items from Paddington’s wardrobe, including the actual props that were used during the making of the new film, to capture exact measurements, colour readings, and scans to create like-for-like replicas in the figure.

Textured fur was created and added for a lifelike finish, and over 20 loaves of bread were studied, trialled and moulded by the artists to create the perfect slice for the bear’s favourite snack – the marmalade sandwich, held in his paw. The adventurous bear’s figure sits atop three suitcases, positioned in a London station-inspired set, ready to take on his next adventure.

Steve Blackburn, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London:

“Our artists have worked closely with STUDIOCANAL to create Paddington’s first-ever Madame Tussauds London figure to ensure that everything from his iconic duffle coat to his adorable button eyes are brought to life for fans young and old. To have fellow cast members Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Hugh Bonneville on the carpet and give their seal of approval assures us that this marmalade-loving bear is sure to warm our guests’ hearts.”

The Paddington figure is now available for fans to meet at Madame Tussauds London’s new Baker Street Studios film and TV zone. The figure will join fellow screen icons such as Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor, Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, James Bond, E.T. and popular Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif’s Anya Khan and Hrithik Roshan’s Aryan Singh.
