2024 Presidential Election programming to air on S4C

S4C goes stateside political…

Welsh language broadcaster S4C is set to capture the excitement of the 2024 presidential election with documentaries and news coverage, culminating in the live announcement of results in an hour-long episode of S4C’s Newyddion news show on Wednesday, 6 November.

Evangelical Christians, a group with significant influence in the US, including its politics, boasting 600 million followers and growing, will be a focus. Journalist Maxine Hughes explores the changing role of Evangelism in both the USA and Wales in the documentary Efengylwyr…Oes Atgyfodiad? (Evangelists…Is There a Resurrection?) airing on 3 November. She delves into their sway over their followers and the government, a power she finds ‘quite scary’.

The current affairs program Y Byd ar Bedwar will air a special edition on 28 October, taking viewers to the United States during the election lead-up. With a tight race for the White House, Siôn Jenkins will visit key states, attend Kamala Harris’ event in Arizona, and listen to Donald Trump’s supporters at a rally in Pennsylvania. The program will cover critical issues like abortion, the economy, and immigration, questioning which candidate will win over the American electorate.

Viewers will have another chance to watch Trump: Byd Eithafol, where Maxine Hughes tracks Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters and converses with Trump himself, available on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer.

In anticipation of the election, S4C news teams will visit various states to document the fervor of the final campaign efforts. They aim to engage with Welsh Americans to discuss what the election means for the global stage. During the pivotal moment of the count, S4C Newyddion will broadcast an extended edition on Wednesday, 6 November, with Bethan Rhys Roberts reporting live from Washington.
