On this day 1963: ‘Rackhams toy fair’

The famous Birmingham department store Rackhams – Now House of Frazer on Corporation Street – launched its festive children toy collection on this day in 1963. The Rackhams Toy Fair presented its Christmas preview at the department store in the city as Midland News cameras captured.

Rackhams was immortalized last year in the ITV1/ITVX drama ‘Nolly’ about midland personality Noele Gordon – who frequented the store. In fact she was one of the few who had a special access to the store via a rear drive-in entrance. In the drama Helena Bonham-Carter as Noele, and Augustus Prew as friend and fellow TV actor Tony Adams, was seen window shopping outside a recreation of the store as it would have looked in 1981.
