OTD, October 7th 1971…
Lionel Hampden spoke with a farmer about why he employs hand pickers in his hop field. He focuses on the decline in the traditional method of picking hops by hand, and how he predicts the end of the traditional ways being operated entirely in two or three years.
The famer also explains to Lionel how most who come to pick the hops on his land have been doing it for years and come from the Worcester area.
The report then shows views of hops being picked by hand with a commentary provided by the pickers themselves. The final section shows the drying and bagging of the hops with a commentary from a contributor who stokes the fire.
