Channel 4 is to air the first US presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, in collaboration with ABC.
The broadcaster will be showing the whole thing live throughout the early hours this Wednesday.
Tump and Harris go head-to-head for the first time as the battle to become President reaches a pivotal point. With polls too close to call, the pair will debate the key issues that could decide who wins the most consequential election in decades.
Matt Frei will host the live programme which will show the debate in Philadelphia in full, and gauge reaction from Democrats and Republicans.
Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs and Specialist Factual and Sport at Channel 4 said:
“The 2024 US election is already proving to be one of the most divisive and pivotal elections in recent history and we are delighted that the Channel 4 audience has the opportunity to watch the crucial Presidential debate live and in full. This deal with ABC demonstrates, yet again, our commitment to delivering unparalleled coverage of global events.”
Trump previously took part in a debate with the current US president, Joe Biden, back in June. During the debate, Biden’s lack of coherence raised worries about his health, and after weeks of reluctance, he ultimately decided to end his re-election campaign.
The debate will air on Channel 4 on Wednesday 11th September from 1.30am.
