Grenfell Next of Kin Group react to latest findings into the tower block tragedy

Response to the Grenfell Tower Fire Inquiry Phase II report by immediate families of the Grenfell victims in the Grenfell Tower Fire tragedy…

“We thank the Inquiry for their work and their efforts, but the most important thing is that we have had no prosecutions in over 7 years and unlikely to see any prosecutions for several more years. And that is because of the Inquiry, which we did not ask for and we were not asked about, our voices were robbed, we were not given the choice and we did not know the consequences and the impact on our right to justice.

“None of the direct kin families were informed about an Inquiry. There was an abuse of power by the Government and this simply cannot happen again.  The only thing that matters to those of us who lost our kin is JUSTICE.” Hisam Choucair who lost 6 members of his immediate family.

“The public Inquiry was ordered by the Prime Minister the morning after the fire on 15th June just hours after the fire. We were looking for our families in hospitals and in shock.  At a meeting with the Met police it was confirmed that they have ‘never known a public Inquiry to be conducted at the same time as a criminal investigation and examining the same issues.

“Normally a public inquiry is conducted after the conclusion of criminal proceedings.’ We were denied justice for 7 years and now told there will be several more years.  Our realistic concern is that the ‘web of blame’ presented through the Inquiry will be a barrier to our JUSTICE.”  – Grenfell Next of Kin Group
