Global Sailing Talent Converges on Plymouth

Britain’s Ocean City is proud to host this year’s 57th Cadet World Championship, a premier sailing regatta organised by the UK Cadet Class Association.

Taking Place now (Launched on July 27th) to August 9, this year’s event promises to be a spectacular showcase of young sailing talent, drawing competitors from across the globe, including Australia and India.

Alice Thorogood, member of the Volunteer Organising Committee:

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome Cadet sailors from all over the world to the UK, home of British Sailing. We are particularly pleased to welcome teams from Ukraine and for the first time in twenty years teams from India.

“The Cadet is a fantastic, three sailed, youth dinghy; with a holder helm and younger crew it is like sailing a small yacht. Learn in a Cadet and you can sail anything. We really hope that the young sailors of Plymouth will start sailing Cadets once they see how much fun they are!”

The Mount Batten Centre is the hub for many of The ABP Cadet World Championship’s social activities, providing an excellent opportunity for participants to forge lasting friendships and create unforgettable memories.

Amanda Lumley, Chief Executive at Destination Plymouth:

“I am really looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our vibrant waterfront city and all that Plymouth has to offer as part of our role hosting this renowned international event. We are excited to welcome young sailors from all corners of the world and sailing enthusiasts alike to our city, which offers a unique blend of history and hospitality, as well as top-notch sailing conditions, making it the perfect venue for this championship.

“We can’t wait to be part of these exciting two weeks of competitive sailing, vibrant social events and for the chance to witness the future stars of sailing in action. This iconic naval city is the perfect setting for this inspiring event. A huge thank you to Associated British Ports (ABP), Minerva’s Virtual Academy, Shik, Stubborn Mule, NFU, Royal Hospital School and Pure Storage for making this possible.”
