Football fan aims to ‘Top the Charts’ with catchy Euros Anthem

The song aims to rally support for England while raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust…

With the Euros underway, one football fan is releasing an infectious anthem aimed at inspiring the nation to glory while supporting a worthy cause – raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.

LADbible group’s journalist, Jake Massey,  is not a musician, but his love for The Three Lions propelled him to create a rallying cry for fans everywhere. After hearing that Gareth Southgate had snubbed him with his squad selection for the upcoming tournament in Germany, Jake took matters into his own hands, strumming away on his guitar until he struck gold.

The result? ‘Come On’ – a spirited football song by a fan, for the fans, with all proceeds from streams and downloads going to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Lyrics include: “Harry Maguire with a tie around his head, And Jack Grealish hasn’t been to bed, Up top, Kane is baggin’, Foden’s a wizard like Bilbo Baggins. Wait Bilbo’s a hobbit like Frodo, who gives a flip we’ve got Phil Foden. In the net, Pickford’s repelling ’em, and front middle back we’ve got Jude Bellingham.

To record the track, LADbible’s Jake (aka Average Jake) – who is best known for other feats including a “Greggs marathon” earlier this year – enlisted the help of Manchester-based band Spangled and producer Gareth Nuttall (Lottery Winners, The K’s), and the tune has turned out way better than he – or anybody who knows him – could ever have imagined.

The song’s message is simple: The players can’t win on their own, England is everyone – the team, you, and me. So come on England, come on the team, come on you, and come on me.

“To be honest, I thought the idea of an ordinary England fan releasing a Euros song was excellent, but I assumed the actual song itself would end up being crap,” Jake said. “However, if you listen to the song, I’m sure you’ll agree that it is in fact fantastic.”

He continued: “My dream is that ‘Come On’ gets into the charts above some Ed Sheeran song that’s been out about six years. But if a few fans sing it and we raise a bit of cash for Teenage Cancer Trust, then I suppose that’ll do.”
