On this Day 1980: Autograss Racer banned for being a woman

Tony Maycock caught up with Sheila Millington had been banned from local autograss race meetings because she is female.

Having competed for several months things took a turn when she began winning the men who run the league  – and they then banned her from competing.

The report notes Sheila would still be able to compete in major events which have a different governing body.
