BBC to mark Strictly Come Dancing’s 20th anniversary with one-off special

The BBC has announced a special one-off retrospective episode of Strictly Come Dancing to mark the show’s 20th anniversary.

Made by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, the programme promises a journey through 20 years of memorable performances with commentary from past celebrity stars, professional dancers and judges.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC said:

Throughout its 20-year history, the show has launched careers, sparked trends, and touched the hearts of millions with its dazzling performances, emotional journeys, and unforgettable moments and we will be showcasing it all in this very special programme.”

Since its debut in 2004, Strictly Come Dancing has become a critically acclaimed hit, winning multiple awards and becoming a global phenomenon. The show’s recent win at the BAFTA TV Awards 2024 for Best Entertainment category marks its continued success.

The show has become one of the Beeb’s best known and well-loved programmes, with last year’s series pulling in an average of 9m for the main Saturday night show (28 Day BARB 4-Screens) and achieving 46.5m iPlayer Hours in 2023 (an increase of 5.4m/13% from 2022).

The anniversary show – yet to be given an official title by the beeb – will have a runtime of 75 minutes.
