Dancing Queen voted favourite ABBA Song

BBC Radio 2 listeners voted Dancing Queen top of the ABBA pops, while Boom Radio listeners crowned a very different ABBA track their favourite recently…

To celebrate 50 years since ABBA won Eurovision both Boom Radio and Radio 2 have asked their listeners to vote for their favourite ABBA track.

Jeff Smith, Radio 2’s Head of Music:

“Radio 2 listeners’ love of ABBA has not diminished since they burst onto the music scene in the 1970s, and Dancing Queen is absolutely one of the most classic pop songs ever recorded.”

Radio 2 listeners have crowned Dancing Queen their favourite ABBA song, taking the No.1 spot in Your Ultimate ABBA Song, in No.2 spot is The Winner Takes It All, No.3 is Thank You For The Music, No. 4 is Slipping Through My Fingers and No.5 is The Day Before You Came.

ABBA  won the Eurovision Song Contest on 6th April 1974 in Brighton with Waterloo. Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Frida (Anni-Frid) represented Sweden at the 19th year of the competition.

Gary Davies presented Your Ultimate ABBA Song he notes, “Dancing Queen is one of those songs that just makes you happy every time you hear it and still gets any dancefloor full to this day – a guaranteed singalong! Thank you Radio 2 listeners for crowning such a brilliant track Your Ultimate ABBA Song.”

Meanwhile, over on the UK’s fastest-growing commercial station Boom Radio, their poll saw The Winner Takes It All take the top place. In The Boom ABBA Chart the tracks that also dominated the Radio 2 poll also featured in Boom’s – just in a slightly different order. Following The Winner Takes It All was in second place The Day Before You Came, then Dancing Queen at No.3, Thank You For The Music at No.4 and in fifth place Slipping Through My Fingers.
