Surrounded by the biggest indoor rainforest in the world, Kaye Adams, Katie Piper, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore discussed if the way that we live, love, spend and socialise can help save the planet – including eco-friendly choices in the bedroom, how often we should be showering and the ‘growing movement of young people around the world who are choosing to go ‘child-free’ in an effort to save the environment’.
Plus, Katie shared her top upcycling tips, all whilst the women were surrounded by tropical plants that demonstrate how rainforests shape the planet’s climate. Opening the show, Katie turned to Kaye and Nadia and asked, “There’s normally four of us, where’s Jane Moore?” before their fellow panellist made a flying entrance on England’s fastest zipline.
Wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan also appeared exclusively as a guest, to discuss her 40 year career and her passion for the planet – before opening up on ageing and ten years since being diagnosed with breast cancer.
At the beginning of their chat, Michaela admitted that one of her roles over the years resulted in her ending up with worms: “I was doing a lot of work in zoos at the time so I was in cages, and I was with animals, and I didn’t wash my hands properly. Then, I ate a sandwich. So, it was from animal faeces that I ended up getting a worm that was under my skin.”
She explained that she first realised because “you could see it under her skin” before adding: “It would itch and then I’d get my partner to take a picture and you could see this sort of worm under the skin.”
Asked if she was ‘panicked’ by the situation, Michaela responded: “I got quite attached to this man – literally! I ended up giving him a little name, you know, ‘William the Worm’. So, I had some worm tablets to try and get rid of it [but it] didn’t touch it.” She revealed she ‘had no symptoms’ and added: “It was still there six months later. It didn’t affect me in any way. It was a symbiotic relationship between me and the worm.”
Before reassuring the panellists that she’d finally been able to get rid of it: “I took double dosage of worm tablets, I had to end the love affair” and Katie joked: “I’m going to use this story to make sure my kids wash their hands!”
Closing their chat, Michaela revealed she adopted a penguin called “‘Lucy’ for Loose Women” as a gift to the ladies.
