On this Day 1960: Construction starts on the M5 Motorway

OTD, April 8th, 1960…

ATV Midland News reported on how construction work had begun on the first section of the M5 motorway. The report features an interview with the Borough Surveyor of Worcester about the new road which will eventually link Birmingham with Bristol.

The route has been planned by Worcestershire County Council and covers Lydiate Ash to Brockeridge Common, near Tewkesbury, where the road will link with the Ross Spur motorway – the M50.
