On this Day 1974: Imported Stilton Cheese sees Melton Mowbray anger

OTD, January 30th 1974…

ATV Today report by Peter Green on the controversy about an American version of stilton cheese.

Peter Green headed to Melton Mowbray where we see shots of ‘real’ stilton being manufactured in a local creamery. Peter speaks with locals in Melton all of whom are negative about the Americans producing stilton.

Bob Watson, chairman of the Stilton Cheese Makers Association notes that they have filed a complaint against the imported Stilton cheese along with indignation from John Easom the former secretary of the association who is known locally as ‘Mr Stilton’. Peter Green ends the item by putting the American cheese into a refuse cart.
