BBC One dominates festive viewing

On Christmas Day, 5.3 million watched EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick win the Silver Star trophy on Strictly Come Dancing.

Only King Charles’ annual address to the nation attracted more viewers with 7.48m watching across multiple channels.

Ghosts and Call The Midwife both had 4.4 million viewers, while Doctor Who‘s first Christmas Day outing since 2017 was seen by 4.7 million.

3.6 million people watched EastEnders‘ dramatic episode that finally revealed who the body on the floor of the Queen Vic was, while Coronation Street and Emmerdale drew 2.6m and 1.9m viewers respectively.

BBC One once again dominated Christmas Day viewing, with ITV’s only entry in the Top 10 being for The 1% Club which had 3.4m viewers.

Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, noted of the Beeb’s success:

“Bringing people together at Christmas matters to audiences and securing nine of the top ten shows demonstrates how much they value the BBC’s Christmas Day line-up. We entertained viewers in their millions on Christmas Day with a range of quality programmes you really can’t find anywhere else to wrap up an outstanding year of creative content on the BBC.”
