Jermaine Jenas is the favourite to become the new host on Top Gear following Freddie Flintoff’s exit from the show, according a bookies.
The former Tottenham and England midfielder, who has appeared on the likes of The One Show and TNT Sports, is 7/1 to assume the role of Top Gear host after it was confirmed this week that Flintoff has been appointed Northern Superchargers head coach. Jenas leads the running ahead of Vernon Kay (9/1), fellow football pundit Micah Richards (11/1), radio host Roman Kemp (12/1) and Patrick Kielty and Adrian Chiles (both 14/1).
There has been speculation as to whether Top Gear will continue following Flintoff’s departure but, according to bettingsites.co.uk, it’s 8/11 that it won’t be cancelled and 11/10 that it will be shelved.
Neil Roarty, spokesperson for bettingsites.co.uk:
“There’s been plenty of speculation as to who could replace Freddie Flintoff on Top Gear if there is to be a new series, and given his seamless transition into presenting on The One Show since hanging up his football boots, Jermaine Jenas is the 7/1 favourite to get behind the wheel as host of BBC’s much-loved motoring series.
“Also being tipped to assume Flintoff’s presenting role are Vernon Kay (9/1), Micah Richards (11/1) and Roman Kemp (12/1), hinting that the BBC could be looking to take the show in a new direction. That said, there’s been plenty of talk that Top Gear could be cancelled for good following Flintoff’s horrific crash last year, but odds of 8/11 suggest that it could well be returning to our screens for another series in the near future.”
