Alex Turner and Arctic Monkeys prove popular for more than just their music…

When it comes to the UK’s most fancied bands, the Sheffield indie rockers Arctic Monkeys are way ahead of the competition, with 210,210 combined searches for the band members over the past year.

Now on their 7th studio album, the band has moved away from the previous guitar-heavy sound of their debut, “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not”, the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history. The UK’s most fancied band member, according to Google searches, is Alex Turner, lead singer and songwriter for the indie rock combo, with more than 196,000 searches over the last year.

Coming in second is the pop-rock band The 1975, with just over 87,000 combined searches for the band members over the last year. Formed in 2002, the band released their self-titled major label debut in 2013, which peaked at number 1 in the UK charts, a feat they’ve managed to achieve with all 5 of their releases.

Taking the third spot is one of the most popular bands of all time, selling over 100 million albums over their 25 years as a group, it is no surprise to see Coldplay in the top 3. Coldplay takes its place as the UK’s third most fancied band, with the members reaching a combined total of a whopping 86,170 searches.

The team at Spin Genie UK have analysed Google search data from the last twelve months for searches such as “hot” and “calendar”, to reveal the nation’s most fancied musicians.
