Today, Bonhams will offer lots from Sir Roger Moore’s personal collection, on the 50th anniversary year of his first appearance as 007.
Included in the lots are a series of watches worn by the actor, featuring rare pieces from Omega, Swatch and more. Paul Maxwell, an expert at
Watch Pilot has shared his insights on which pieces are the best to invest in.
Set of 20 Swatches in a 007 tan leather case – estimate £10,000 – £20,000
What is it?: A unique set of 20 Swatches beautifully presented in a 007-themed tan leather case
“This particular set catches the eye due to its pristine condition and distinctive nature. Although Swatch doesn’t have an established connection with the Bond films, this lot, if acquired around the estimated sale price of £10k, could see considerable appreciation in the short to mid-term.”
50th Anniversary Omega Limited Edition – estimate: £20,000 – £30,000
What is it?: A limited edition Omega to commemorate 50 years of Bond films. One of only 11,007 pieces, this particular watch comes engraved with the message, “To Roger love from Michael and Barbara,” presumed to be from Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, long-time producers of the Bond franchise.
“The Omega brand has become synonymous with 007 over the past 30 years. This 50th Anniversary piece stands out for its limited availability and intriguing backstory. While its reserve price of £20k to £30k might raise some eyebrows, its rarity and origin could make it a wise investment for the future.”
Commenting on the lot pricing and potential investment opportunities, Paul said “Auctions can be unpredictable, often offering surprises, especially when dealing with iconic items such as Bond-associated watches. The guide prices on some lots might seem astonishingly low, but it’s the stories, authenticity, and rarity of these pieces that make them so coveted. These top picks could potentially offer a sound short to mid-term investment.”
Before investing in collectibles, seeking additional expertise and considering factors such as market trends and individual interest in the particular item is always wise.
