Harper continues to harbour Dana at Irene’s house in Home and Away
This week in Summer Bay…
MONDAY
Harper continues to harbour Dana at Irene’s and the sisters are anxious for an update from Cash. When Cash bails on Eden to attend to Harper, Eden’s hackles are slightly raised, and she ends up getting the gossip from John – he noticed Harper’s uncomfortable reaction around the police. She’s very comfortable with Cash though, he’s quick to add. When Eden sees Cash chatting to Harper later, she grills him – what is he helping her with? She’s somewhat troubled by this secret he’s keeping, but later brings doughnuts as a peace offering – she trusts him, after all.
At Irene’s, there’s tension between the sisters when Harper finds Dana trying to call her ex-boyfriend, the one who got them into this mess by lying to the police. When Cash arrives to see Harper, Dana is forced to hide, while Harper seeks news on her sister’s case – it’s a slow burn on Cash’s side though as he can’t even get the case file
Tensions continue to be fraught between Xander and Rose. He hasn’t accepted her search for her biological father. Rose confides in a supportive Mali – she hasn’t told Xander about the lead she found because she doesn’t want to risk making waves before they have more information. At the station later, Rose’s curiosity gets the better of her and she looks up the record for Samuel Edwards. Caught red-handed by Cash, she spills – Samuel was born in Capetown, and so she could be half South-African. She also finds a marriage certificate, and he was definitely married when Rose was conceived. When a call to her mum is met with resistance, it seems to be confirmed – Samuel Edwards must be her dad…
TUESDAY
Kirby is back from the city where she’s been working with Forrest, and Justin is keen to know how soon the news will be out that she’s gone solo. Tomorrow, she tells him. This is bad news for Justin – it means that in less than 24 hours, the Lyrik he’s been promoting will no longer exist. When he sees Kirby and Forrest at Salt later, he seizes his opportunity and pleads his case to Forrest – is there any way he can delay the announcement? Forrest is clear that he won’t budge, he needs to do the best by Kirby now, but Justin can’t resist appealing to Kirby when he sees her the next day – Lyrik are her friends, and this announcement could damage them. Forrest fronts up at the Morgan house later with an update – yes, they’ll delay the announcement. But before Justin can celebrate, Forrest hits him with another bombshell – they’re withholding all copyright permissions. Lyrik won’t be able to play any songs Kirby composed on.
Harper and Dana have an explosive fight at home – Dana still loves Olly and can’t see that he’s betrayed her. Harper urges Dana to think with her head for once but Dana rails at her sister – she never gave Olly a chance! Harper is left horrified when a hurt Dana storms out of Irene’s, risking her cover in a bid to get away from their tension. She follows in hot pursuit, urging her sister to go back to the house when she receives a message from Cash – he finally has the case file. With Dana back in hiding, Cash meets with Harper for an update – the case has plenty of holes.
Rose is still reeling from her discoveries about her biological father and confides in Mali and Kirby – she envies their attachment to their culture.
WEDNESDAY
Lyrik are playing a gig at Salt tonight, but it hasn’t broken yet that the four-piece band is down to three. While Remi extends an olive branch to Kirby, Justin reels from the news that Forrest is withholding copyright permissions. At an urgent band meeting, Justin quizzes Remi and Theo – does anyone have a contract? “That’s not what Lyrik is about”, Remi offers. Justin breaks the bad news to the boys that they may not be able to continue playing the songs from their album. When Kirby invites them for drinks later, she doesn’t understand the cold reception.
When Kirby confides in Bree that Remi and Theo are still weird with her, and Eden still hasn’t responded to messages, Bree has a solution. Why don’t they swap houses for a while, until things settle down? Kirby is grateful for the offer, and for Bree’s friendship. “I’m sure they’ll be glad to see the back of me” she bemoans. When Kirby meets with Forrest later, he suggests she keep her distance from the band. Things are too messy right now. Kirby agrees – she’s happy to focus on her work for the time being.
Justin meanwhile has called Forrest to the Morgan House with a proposal – Lyrik are allowed to keep playing Kirby’s songs, and she’ll be financially compensated. Her material will be promoted, and she’ll be paid. But Forrest is immovable – he won’t sign a retrospective contract. Things might be different, he tells Justin, if Theo and Remi hadn’t given Kirby such a hard time earlier. Justin laments to Leah – if only he’d been across the contract situation. Having said that, he’s determined to find a solution.
THURSDAY
Lyrik’s gig at Salt has a big question mark over it following the copyright permissions being blocked on Kirby’s songs. Remi is the one to break the bad news to Eden that Kirby won’t be the only thing missing when they play that night, while Justin grovels to a less-than-understanding Mackenzie. When he proposes that the band will play covers that night, Mac cancels the gig. “You’re so unprofessional” she snipes at Justin. When Justin refers Mackenzie’s complaint to Forrest, Mac actually does pursue it, and gloats to Justin the next day that Forrest bought her out for the loss of income. She even has exclusive access to Kirby’s solo music when the time comes.
Already reeling from one round of bad news, Eden is thrown to discover Bree and Kirby’s house-swap arrangement. When Remi tells her it might make things easier since Justin has blocked them from speaking to Kirby, Eden’s on the warpath. Justin will not be dictating who she speaks to, she tells him. Kirby’s her friend, and that hasn’t changed. Justin counters that Eden’s attitude hasn’t helped the situation, and he’s just trying to do what’s best for the band. Remi offers a solution later – his parents can put them in touch with an entertainment lawyer.
Tane and Felicity prep for Tane’s self-defence classes and Eden has promised she’ll be there. When the morning comes though, Bree, Mac and Felicity are all in attendance and Eden is nowhere to be seen. Felicity turns up at the share house to coax her friend out and is buoyed when Eden reluctantly agrees. Once they’re in the class however, Eden gets carried away venting her frustrations over Kirby and Lyrik, and accidentally punches Felicity in the face!
FRIDAY
Theo is depressed following the breakdown of the band, and Leah is concerned that he’s wasting his days away in bed. She encourages her nephew – he’s young and talented with the world at his feet. Buoyed by this exchange, Theo tries his luck getting Mackenzie to book him for a solo gig at Salt. She declines, but not before Eden overhears their exchange. Hurt, she accuses him of abandoning Lyrik. Just like Kirby did.
Later, Eden is forced to order water over beer when her lack of income stream catches up with her. Mac offers her a shift or two at Salt if she needs it, but Eden maintains she’s not a charity. And besides, she’s not looking for another job right now. She still hasn’t given up on Lyrik.
Tane receives news from Nikau – his mum’s been in an accident and broken her leg and collarbone, and Nikau is flying out from New York to be with her. With family always his priority, Tane feels the pull to go to New Zealand and be with his nephew and sister-in-law, but reasons with Felicity that it’s too soon after her assault for him to leave her. Felicity counters – her attacker is in jail, and he’s pleaded guilty. She’s got to move on with her life, and she’s not going to let the assault hang over her forever.
Home and Away airs 1:45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6:30pm on 5STAR and the series also streams on My5.
