Showbiz 5: From Doris to Linda

Entertainment Daily reported how Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine has revealed the name she has given to her baby daughter. ‘The actress welcomed her baby girl into the world nearly five months ago’ the publication noted, adding ‘Jennie’s announced the name of her third child – and its special Corrie connection’.

Born on April 4th, in Manchester, weighing 7lbs 11oz, the child has been named after the legendary Doris Speed who played original on-screen Rovers Return Inn landlady Annie Walker from 1960 to 1983. Jennie’s other children also have Corrie connected names; Albert and Hilda.

Radio presenter Jamie Crick died at the age of 57.

A spokesperson for Bauer Media UK said: “Jamie Crick was a broadcaster through and through and played an integral role on our radio stations. He was also a great friend to his colleagues at Jazz FM, Scala Radio and the wider Bauer Media teams. He will be sorely missed by them all, along with his friends and listeners.

“Our radio stations have a big gap to fill and will pay tribute accordingly in the near future, but while they all come to terms with Jamie’s unexpected passing, they will continue to broadcast the music that he loved in his honour every day. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time.”

Jamie passed away after a short illness his family noted. Since 2014 he had worked for Bauer on Jazz FM and Scala Radio. He spent two decades before that with Classic FM and was creative director of Gaydar Radio.

The Express newspaper reported this week that ‘Simon Cowell imposed email ban on Britain’s Got Talent ratings after seeing therapist.’ The publication noted ‘The music mogul revealed he had benefited from seeing a therapist for the first time aged 63, which helped him to understand the external value he put on TV ratings.’

Cowell, whose company co-produces BGT alongside Thames Television, is also a judge on the talent search series. Simon told The Mirror: “[The therapist] asked me ‘Do you consider your best work to be the highest-rated thing you’ve ever done?’ “And I said, ‘No.’ And he said, ‘So why are you judging yourself on that?’ “I sent an email saying, ‘That’s it. I don’t want to know about ratings anymore’.”

Penny Lancaster is the latest big name to quit ITV Daytime amid recent reports of “toxicity” backstage at Television Centre across programmes This Morning and Loose Women. Lancaster, who appeared on the latter show, follows stalwarts Carol McGiffin and Saira Khan in departing the daily female focused debate series.

Penny, who is married to singer Sir Rod Stewart, is reportedly unable to commit to the show, The Sun notes, due to Rod’s touring schedule. A source told the newspaper “She’s touring with Rod and also has family commitments both in the UK and abroad. She could still make a guest appearance.”

An independent, internal, investigation to ITV Daytime’s alleged toxic environment is due to report shortly.

‘Rylan Clark says he is ‘praying’ for mum Linda as he announces temporary break to BBC Radio 2 show’ reported National World this week. The publication went on to state ‘The BBC Radio 2 DJ is temporarily stepping back from his weekend show to care for his mum after she experienced a “bad fall” while on holiday’ adding ‘his mother has been forced to have surgery’ after taking a tumble

“She’s not in the best health with her other conditions and this has made it more complicated. My priority at the moment is my mum.” Rylan noted on X/Twitter

Scott Mills has been covering for the former X Factor and Big Brother personality. Rylan’s mum is known to Channel 4 viewers from her appearances with her son on Celebrity Gogglebox.
