Mary Connors from Leicester was attempting to become the first woman to be blasted across the River Avon at Tewkesbury as Bob Warman reported.
Media Archive for Central England note ‘Mary Connors was the secretary of Joe Weston Webb, a Leicestershire showman and the owner of the human cannonball device (Weston-Webb was also featured in an ATV Today item on this day promoting his mud wrestling women). Connors returned in 1975 for a second attempt using a catapult.’
Mary Connors was interviewed by Bob before the attempt inside the cannon where she admits to not being able to swim. The report then shows the failed attempt with Mary shot into the river. After being picked up by the rescue boat Warman talks to her again about her future plans.
