Maryam Moshiri to present BBC News’ The Daily Global

The programme will see changes later this year following the announcement that Yalda Hakim has quit the Beeb for Sky News.

Chief presenter Maryam Moshiri will take over the BBC News channel’s The Daily Global programme. The series was established when the channel launched as a ‘single news channel’ operation in April, which saw BBC News Channel (UK) and BBC World News Channel (International) combine operations to save costs. Since the merger there has been a clear lack of quality on the service, with faults and ‘cock-ups’ becoming a regular feature.

Despite the cost-cutting calamities The Daily Global, the BBC note, will continue to provide viewers with an in-depth run down of some of the day’s significant stories from around the world.

Maryam has been a presenter on the World News channel for nearly four years, where she has presented many of the flagship programmes, including Outside Source, The Context, Impact, Global, and Newsday, as well as being one of the regular faces on the BBC News Channel.

Prior to this, she worked as a business presenter on BBC News for 16 years, presenting flagship business programmes including World Business Report, Talking Business and the Business Briefing. She was also the main face of business on Afternoon Live on the BBC News Channel.

Maryam has presented and reported on some of the biggest stories of the past two decades, from the economic impact of the 9/11 attacks to the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine. She has interviewed some of the world’s top politicians, economists, investors and CEOs.

Yalda Hakim will leave the BBC later this year, she joins Sky News to host a new primetime programme as part of a multiplatform offering focused on international news entitled The Daily Global with Yalda Hakim.

Yalda Hakim:

“I am honoured and excited to be joining Sky News as lead world news presenter. I have long admired Sky for its smart, fearless and world-class reporting. At a time when global media must work harder than ever to earn the confidence of our viewers, I look forward to giving my all as part of one of the most talented and accomplished news teams anywhere.”
