Maureen Lipman claims Beeb destroyed Jimmy Savile expose interview

The BBC covered up a Jimmy Savile interview which exposed his alleged perverted ways reports The Daily Express.

The newspaper quotes Dame Maureen Lipman recalling a story of how Beeb interviewer Mavis Nicholson, apparently having just had an unwanted advance by the Top of the Pops presenter, called him out during the pre-recorded conversation on his dubious off-air lifestyle.

“Mavis was the only person who got Jimmy Savile… She was in the hospitality room with him and she had this back-winged dress thing on and he slid his hand up. And she said to him, ‘Don’t you ever do that to me. Don’t you ever do that to any woman’.

“They destroyed this, the BBC…He started going on about how he does everything for God and for Jesus and all that, and she said to him, ‘And James, is it for Jesus that you have these underage girls in your caravan?’

“And after the show he complained bitterly about her and had it destroyed.” – Dame Maureen Lipman quoted in The Daily Express

The newspaper goes on to note ‘Nicholson died last year aged 91 and it is unclear whether Lipman, 77, knows for sure that the tape was destroyed.’ The Jim’ll Fix It host was exposed as having allegedly sexually attacked thousands of people across his career up until his death in 2011 aged 84. Several attempts to bring Savile to justice during his lifetime came to nothing due to lack of evidence.

The BBC, currently dealing with accusations against BBC News host Huw Edwards have declined to comment on Lipman’s comments. Edwards, it is alleged, has potentially abused his position as the face of BBC news programming, although no illegal activity has taken place.
